I wish I knew why I need external deadlines to get things done. After knocking off 48 Hour films in 5 different cities in just 72 days, you'd think I'd have the drive to knock out some films without external prompting. But NOOOOOO! As soon as the contest series  is over, I'm back to talking about getting films done, but not doing them. I guess that's the dilemma of every filmmaker, novelist, composer, you name it. Without an outside motivator, inertia takes over. Yecch.

Shortly after finishing my Portand 48 hour film, the one I shot on my Verizon Treo cell phone, I sent out a press release (pretty much that previous post) talking up Verizon and Palm and everything associated with it. I emailed the release to both companies, figuring they'd be interested in a fun story about exciting things people could do with their products.

Imagine my excitement when I got a response from Verizon nearly the same day. My excitement dimmed considerably when read the actual response. I was being informed that it's not Verizon, it's "Verizon Wireless." Well, excuse me! Sorry I mentioned it at all! Amazing!

Weekend Student Film Festival 4/21

Cincinnati.com reports, "On April 21, the newly renovated Carnegie Visual + Performing Arts Center, 1028 Scott St., Covington, (KY?) will host the public screening of a new short film festival showcasing students from six local schools. Modeled after the 48 Hour Film Project, the College Weekend Film Festival will give teams 72 hours to write, shoot and edit a short movie over the first weekend in April. The results will be rated by professionals and audience members at the April 21 event. The schools are Northern Kentucky University, University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, Brown Mackie College, Cincinnati State and Ohio School of Broadcasting."

2006 Instant Moviemaking Season

The Instant Moviemaking season is almost here!  I’ve signed up to make 48-Hour Films in three cities so far (Boston, New York and Philadelphia) starting on March 24 and running at least through April. These will be my 7^th, 8^th and 9^th 48 Hour Films, in addition to two Cinemasports entries and dozens of films for my monthly Quickflicks meetings. Needless to say, I’m a bit nutty about instant moviemaking.

            The blog will cover the process of creating, completing, and showing this season’s films, as well as “how-to” techniques for instant moviemaking that I learned in the past. I’m also planning a book about Instant Moviemaking, so quit a bit of this blog will end up in the book.
