Welcome
to the home of an entirely new film genre -- the Cinema Solo. In this
exciting new form the entire production is executed by one person.
Because of the power of digital video technology, that single person
can write, act, shoot, edit, create music and deliver a complete
cinematic work with no outside assistance.
Example: Ikeaphobia
The
Cinema Solo is a distinct form. Just as an artist might create a dance
solo or a piano solo, the Cinema Solo is a form that is totally
specific to an individual performer and expresses a unique point of
view.
The
Cinema Solo arises from the belief that there are two essential
functions in film and theatre -- actors and audiences. All other
filmmaking functions are extensions of those two roles. For the first
time in film history, its now possible for a single individual to
execute all the tasks required to complete a film.
The
emergence of the Cinema Solo also marks another important milestone --
the lack of money is no longer a barrier to filmmaking talent. Every
computer currently sold can be used to create films with more
sophistication than was available to early filmmaking masters such as
D. W. Griffith and Mack Sennett. Digital cameras cost less than an
average movie mogul's lunch tab.
Most
reasonably experienced computer users can figure out the rudiments of
one-person filmmaking on their own but there is a distinct body of
technique that turns a sequence of moving images into a compelling
story. Cinema Soloists aim to advance that art.
