Why do I do this?
One man 48 hour filmmaking is a one-of-a-kind activity. I don't know anyone else who does 48-Hour One-Man Movie Musicals, so I guess it's just my little quest to do something that nobody else does. Lots of people make movies, lots write songs and sing them, but at the moment, I don't know anybody else who does this exact thing under these conditions.
I like the fact that both 48 Hour Filmmaking and One Man Movie Musical making are new inventions that have only become possible recently. Today's technology enables people to create work that couldn't have been created before and share that work with audiences that weren't available before.
I'm also glad to be doing this one at home. This way I can fully participate in the event - the kickoff, the dropoff, I can go to the other screenings, look forward to seeing fellow filmmakers at other times in the year, perhaps collaborate with others under other circumstances. It's been a blast to meet the teams from Philly and Boston, but New York is where I'm at home. I'm also glad to have done two 48 Hour Films in the last 5 weeks before doing this one (I guess this is like the old Homecoming football game in high school. Maybe that's why they call tonight's meeting a kickoff.). Several weeks of practice gave me a chance to work out my process and go in with a sense of how to approach the task.
So, on to the kickoff!
